Five Stand is a type of shotgun sport shooting similar to sporting clays, trap and skeet. Multiple clay target throwers are used. Participants shoot in turn (from stations 1 through 5) at various combinations of clay birds. At each station our range master will let the shooter know the sequence of clay birds he or she will see (i.e. which trap the clay bird will be coming from). The shooter is presented with 5 targets at each station, first a single bird followed by two pairs. Pairs can be either "report pairs," in which the second bird will be launched after the shooter fires at the first; or "true pairs" when both birds launch at the same time. After shooting at the 5 birds at that station, the shooter proceeds to the next stand, where they will be presented a new combination of 5 targets.

Earlier this year, a grant was awarded to our club from the Friends of the NRA that allowed us to add this much needed machine to our range. A great deal of effort went in to getting the CFGPA trap range ready for this improvement. From the many hours of planning, to all the teamwork that went into each step along the way, the final product speaks for itself. A special thanks also goes out to Chris McTigue and Compass Concrete of Smithsburg, MD. Without all the work and generous donation of materials for the trap house and pads, this would not have been possible.

The addition of the AT 400 wobble trap has allowed for a very diverse crowd of men, women and even some youth shooters (with adult supervision) to visit our range. Our facility is open to the public every Tuesday evening for 5 Stand, and Thursday evening for trap. The games run from 5 PM to 10 PM (weather permitting), from the beginning of April through the end of October. The cost is $5.00 per round of 25. You do not need to be an expert marksman to enjoy these types of clay games, and many of our more advanced shooters are always willing to assist newcomers.
